Evaluation of the interACT solutions started
The aim of WP6 of the interACT project is to evaluate and assess the impact of the interaction strategies and communication solutions developed during the project. Our first step was to catalogue the methodologies and evaluation criteria derived from the literature in this area, and through this we have created an evaluation criteria catalogue as part of the D6.1. This catalogue provides a summary of the methods used to assess road user interactions, especially those that involve automated vehicles. These methods will be incorporated with insights gained from workshops with experts, and our past experiences in WP2 and WP4, to identify the most appropriate approaches to investigate our research questions and evaluate the interACT solutions. Two vehicle demonstrators will be tested within WP6 – the BMW i3 model that will be evaluated by TUM, and the CRF Jeep that will be evaluated by ITS University of Leeds. The interACT solutions developed in WP3, WP4, and WP5, including the eHMI, iHMI and CCPU are being integrated in these vehicles, which will be tested in real world and test track environments. A series of simulator studies will also be conducted using the recently launched Highly Immersive Kinematic Experimental Research (HIKER) pedestrian lab and driving simulator at ITS, and DLR’s connected driving simulator facilities. These studies will enable an investigation of both pedestrian and other vehicle’s responses to the interACT communication solutions.
